HU participates in the Second International Conference of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development

Dr. Hijazi Da'jneh from the HU Department of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) attended the Second International Conference of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development, which took place in Amman, Jordan, on August 13-14, 2024.

Dr. Da'jneh presented a paper titled "Climate Change and Its Impact on the Environment in the West Bank, Palestine, using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Technologies."

More than 16 Arab and foreign nations attended the conference titled "The Role of National Institutions in Confronting Environmental Risks - Reality and Ways to Address them." More than a hundred specialist research papers were given on a range of sustainable development-related subjects.

The conference concluded that humanity faces significant environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and resource depletion, threatening future generations and sustainable development. Air pollution contributes to millions of deaths annually and increases chronic diseases like cancer.

The conference highlighted the pioneering role of Arab and international universities in addressing sustainability challenges through education, scientific research, and technological innovation. Universities develop new technologies to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency. They promote a sustainability culture, invest in research, and foster partnerships between public and private sectors. Environmental education is essential for a sustainable future.
