Hebron University hosts the Third National Conference of Diabetes

Hebron University hosted the Third National Conference of Diabetes organised by the Augusta Victoria Hospital / Jerusalem in collaboration with Hebron University as part of celebrating the Diabetes Day. Hundreds of doctors, specialists, and people concerned with this worldwide disease from a variety of health establishments around the country attended the conference.

Mr. Ahmad Abu Al Halawa – The Director of the Diabetes Centre in the Augusta Victoria Hospital and keynote speaker of the ceremony –welcomed the guests and the participants in the conference calling them to rise for the national anthem. After that, Dr, Nimer Abu Zahra – the Vice President of Public Relation at Hebron University –delivered a word in which he welcomed the audience and the participants. He extended to the audience the greetings of the chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Nabil Al-Jabari, and both the academic and administrative departments at the university. Dr. Abu Zahra touched in his speech on the stages of the university development through four decades. At the end of his speech, Dr. Abu Zahra wished success for the conference asserting on the interest of Hebron University in holding scientific conferences which contribute to spreading awareness among the Palestinian society. 

On behalf of Dr. Fathi Abu Mughli - the Minister of Health-, Dr. As’ad Ramlawi delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings of the minister to the audience. Dr. Ramlawi asserted the interest of the Ministry of Health to develop and promote medical services provided for the citizens. He also touched on the importance of holding the national conference in the southern part of Palestine. He revealed that, 10 percent of the Palestinians suffer from diabetes.

The opening session of the conference included many speeches by Mr. Lars Adam Rihov,  The Danish Representative to the Palestinian National Authority, Dr. Omayya Khammash  the UN Director of the Medical Services, Mr. Mads Lendgard, and Dr. Tawfeq Naser  the General Executive Director of the Augusta Victoria Hospital.

Doctors reviewed the risks of diabetes, the mechanisms of prevention, and the future plans of the National Committee of Diabetes.

The two-day conference included meetings and lectures prepared by nine of the most important scientists of diabetes on the international level.
