Hebron University Host Prof. Adrian Holiday
In cooperation with the British Council, the English Department at Hebron University hosted Professor Adrian Holliday from Canterbury Christ Church University and Mr. Andrew Foster from the British Council. The Chairman of the English Department Dr. Mohammed Farrah welcomed the guests at the Public Relations office Furthermore, Prof. Holliday gave a lecture ion the Role of Culture in English Language Education. In his lecture Professor Holliday talked about two theories in sociology which are related to culture and they are: the structural-functional model and the social action model. He then talked about the interaction of language with culture and identity and the relationship of language and culture and politics. At the end of this lecture, Professor Holliday answered questions from the teachers and students from the English Department.
This was followed by a workshop for the MA students in Applied Linguistics in coordination with Dr. Hazem Bader. The professor discussed with the students the benefits of the Qualitative Research and how it is distinguished from other types of research. A number of issues related to scientific research in Applied Linguistics were raised. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Mohammed Farrah and Dr. Hazem Bader thanked Professor Holliday and the British council for the informative lecture and the fruitful workshop.
