Hebron University Hosts Dean of Amsterdam Law School

Hebron University College of Law and Political Science hosted Professor Margoleine Zieck, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, who gave a lecture via video-conference on “The High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees (UNHCR)” as part of “International Refugee Law” Course taught by Dr. Mutaz Qafisheh, Dean of the College of Law and Political Science and Associate Professor of International Law at Hebron University.

Prof. Zieck addressed the evolution of UNCHR’s functions, the International Refugee Organization, UNHCR’s Statute, its beneficiaries, funding and mechanisms to provide protection to refugees through supervision, monitoring and cooperation with states in providing durable solutions to refugees, particularly in light of the current challenges facing the international community as a result of the Middle East crisis, especially in Syria and Iraq.

This lecture comes within the framework of cooperation program between the Hebron University and the University of Amsterdam, which includes teaching common courses, students exchange to complete PhD in the Netherland, and to offer places for a number of LLB students of Hebron University to study one semester at the University of Amsterdam. Both Palestinian and Dutch universities intend to sign a memorandum of cooperation, which was discussed with Prof. Zieck during the visit of Dr. Qfisheh to the University of Amsterdam in February 2016.
