College of Agriculture holds conference on research and applications of water harvesting in Palestine

Under the patronage of HE Dr. Nabil Al-Jabari, head of the Board of Trustees, and in the presence of Eng.  Adalah Alatyrh president of Palestine’s EQA, as well as participation of many governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field of agriculture, environment and water, including the Ministry of Agriculture, EQA, Bir Zeit University, PARC, UAWC, land Research Center, Applied Research Center (ARIJ), Palestinian Hydrology Group, Hebron University Faculty of Agriculture held a conference entitled "Research and Applications of Water Harvesting in Palestine."

The conference dealt with several issues: the limited amount of water available in Palestine, the sharp climatic changes sweeping the region, irregular amounts and distribution of rainfall during the season as these amounts have recently taken the form of strong storms with large amounts of water falling in a short period, which leads to a range of problems, particularly the surface runoff accompanied by soil erosion.
In his speech, Dr. Nabil Al-Jabari emphasized the issues of protecting Palestinian intellectual harvest, developing human resources, especially the Palestinian women who is the pivotal factor in the environment. Dr. Nabil called for continuing doubling our efforts to get our rights in the Palestinian water that is being stolen by the Israeli government. He also focused on the need to use all different methods, technological means and results of scientific research related to water harvesting to reach a Palestinian water security.

Eng. Alatyrh pointed out the importance of the role played by the Environmental Quality Authority through their plans and strategies as well as their projects which are carried out in partnership with various institutions of the civil society, which would expand and develop the knowledge of the importance of water harvesting and its role in strengthening the steadfastness of our people on this land.
 
This conference included three main themes: research results and applications of water harvesting, policies and strategies, and practical experiments and success stories of water harvesting. The conference was concluded with several recommendations.
