Professor at English Department published a research in a recently published book under title “Psychology and Power”

The book has 7 chapters of which the second chapter is by Professor Ahmad Atawneh. The chapter is under the title “Psychology and Power in the Middle East”. Professor Atawneh analyzed comparative discourse of language and power using the legitimation theory of war besides the elements of language that serve to shape the choices of the statements used by the powerful among politicians and media reporters in talking about the war on Gaza.  This research revealed how the element of power plays effective role in influencing the psychology of enemies in war times. It has been found that the language of the powerful side is a language of threats; while the language of the weaker side is a language of appeals. Israelis statements threaten Palestinians; while Palestinian statements appeal to the world to help against injustice and attacks on Gaza. In this research, Professor Atawneh found that all the justifications of the legitimation theory in war claimed by Israel and the US are false. The Israeli claims of the good conduct of the Israeli army are also false claims.
