This course deals with chemistry of living organisms, macromolecules & water, functional groups, the animal cell, cellular organelles, metabolism & cellular respiration, protein synthesis, DNA replication, form & function, nutrition & digestive system, Immune system, reproductive system & endocrinology

52111   Fundamentals of Zoology Lab.

This course covers laboratory practices: handling of the microscope, animal cell, animal tissues, external and internal characteristics of animals. It also covers circulatory, digestive, respiratory, excretory, skeletal, endocrine and nervous systems of selected animal species

52211    Principles of Animal Production

This course deals with scientific principles and applied practices related to animal production. Topics includes: basic terminology, classification of farm animals, animal products, genetics, animal breeding and selection, comparative anatomy and physiology, nutrition, reproduction, health and marketing of animals and animal products

52225   Feeds and Animal Feeding

This course deals with basic functions of major nutrient classes, nutrition, digestion, absorption and metabolism, NRC feed classification, Van Soest of fiber analysis and practical applications, feed processing, nutritional requirements of livestock and poultry.

52221   Feeds and Animal Feeding Lab.

This course deals with lab safety measures, reality of lab analysis results, sampling methods. Proximate analysis and Van Soest method of fiber analysis. Spectrophotometry & the physical and chemical methods for feed analysis and evaluation.

52235    Physiology and Anatomy of Farm Animals

This course deals with concepts of anatomy and physiology of farm animals. In addition, understanding of principle systems of livestock and poultry so that the information can be applied to husbandry and management methods that maximize performance, health and well-being of farm animals.

52236   Physiology and Anatomy of Farm Animals Lab.

This course covers practical experience in topic like the animal cells, cellular structure and function, homeostasis, major mammalian and poultry systems and the integrated functioning of the entire animal body

52240    Poultry Production and Management

This course deals with the poultry industry in Palestine and Worldwide, poultry breeds and breeding, incubation and hatching, brooding, production of broilers, layers and broiler breeders, nutrition, health, equipment and housing, marketing and technology use in management of closed poultry houses

52241    Dairy Cattle Production

This course covers a wide range of topics relating to dairy cattle selection, breeding, and management. It also covers milk production, handling and marketing. In addition, this course integrates information on nutrition, genetics, reproduction, health, management and record keeping as applied to dairy cattle farms

52250   Animal Health

This course deals with basic health concepts and management practices for disease control (Biosecurity principles), major bacterial, viral, parasitic, fungal, and metabolic diseases common to livestock. It also deals with public health, zoonotic diseases

52351    Poultry Diseases and Parasites

This course covers practices ( i.e biosecurity) for improving the performance of poultry. It also discusses the key poultry diseases which include; viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal diseases common to poultry

This course covers laboratory applications of health, disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of clinical importance

This course deals with importance of livestock and poultry management, modern techniques of production, animal identification methods, management of new-born and growing animals, management skill, health care, handling and restraint, production and accounting records, processing techniques and marketing

52353    Farm Animals Diseases

This course covers the bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic and nutritional diseases of sheep, cows, goats and horses (large livestock animals) and biosecurity rules in farms

52325    Feed Formulation & Processing Technology

This course gives an overview about the animal feed ingredients (the sources of energy, protein, minerals & vitamins, the synthetic amino acids & the non-feed additives). It also covers the building of the ingredient’s matrix, the use of the animal’s nutrient requirements tables & the use of linear programming techniques for the formulation of feeds for the different types of animals. Feed processing methods & the factors affecting the quality of manufactured feeds.

This course introduces students to history and utilization of rangelands, rangelands characteristics, range plant physiology and ecology, survey and evaluation of rangelands, grazing practices, grazing capacity, and grazing systems. Emphasis will be given to grazing practices and rangelands management in the developing countries

52361    Range Improvement

This course covers rangelands improvement planning and practices, manipulation of rangelands vegetation, landscapes managed for grazing livestock especially sheep and goats, issues of invasive range plants, practical and economical methods of improving pastures and grasslands, wildlife, ecological and other uses of rangelands

52331    Technology of Reproduction and Artificial Insemination

This course deals with concepts of reproduction in livestock and poultry, male and female reproductive systems, general endocrinology, hormonal control of reproduction, management techniques and applications of reproductive technologies, gametogenesis, oogenesis, estrus, heat detection, gestation, parturition, mothering and seasonality. It also covers techniques in the collection, evaluation and processing of semen and embryo culturing and manipulation, estrus synchronization, and fertility and reproductive disorders

This course deals with application of genetic principles for livestock and poultry improvement, purebred, crossbreeding, selection, reproductive processes in farm animals, improving animal performance and health through modern technologies

This course deals with the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system, nutrition, rumen microbial fermentation, nitrogen utilization and metabolism, energy partitioning, net energy system. In addition, range livestock and feedlot nutrition, supplementation, and common metabolic diseases of ruminants

52324    Poultry Nutrition

This course deals with the digestive physiology of the monogastric animals, comparison of the ruminants and non-ruminants’ digestive systems, feed ingredients, nutrients and nutrient requirements, ration formulation, feed processing and nutritional management. In addition, growth curves and production curves, feeding systems in commercial poultry operations

This course covers sheep and goats farming, population, cultural impacts, breeds and breeding, selection, feeding, management of reproduction, health, marketing, and general husbandry practices relating to sheep and goat flocks

This course deals with major development in animal production and protection, discussion of new development, issues, practices, and procedures. Each student is asked to review, scientific writing, and presentation of a topic in animal production and health

This course allows the students to gain practical experience through training off and on campus in broiler, layers, and broiler breeders operations. This course will also expose students to practical application of their courses and will provide initial linkage with employment opportunities
