Curriculum Committee
Objectives
The Curriculum Committee (CC) at the College of Medicine at Hebron University aims to support the learning and teaching process in the College through developing and monitoring curricula, and educational courses, and follow up the continuous improvement and modernization of these courses to ensure the achievement of the intended learning outcomes. This is in addition to the continuous evaluation of the curricula, and making recommendations based on feedback to ensure the provision of high-quality curricula with international standards, in line with rapid scientific developments, and to ensure the application of the latest learning strategies at the College.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review the College’s study plans and the various plans for the study programs.
- Review course descriptions, courses, files, and contents. In addition, follow up on the learning and teaching outcomes of the study plan courses, taking into account the inclusion of the necessary concepts, knowledge and skills, in consistency with the educational program for continuous evaluation followed in the college.
- Hold meetings with departments in the college to determine the general objectives of the academic courses. This will be conducted by comparing the objectives of the courses with the college’s vision and objectives, and the outcomes of the educational process in the college.
- Review all proposals related to improving and developing curricula, and submitting relevant recommendations and proposals.
- Review the results of the curriculum evaluation process, follow up on the learning and teaching process received from the Quality Assurance Unit, review the Feedback from faculty members and students regarding the course progress and the difficulties they face, and work on continuous improvement of the curricula.
- Submit recommendations for holding training courses and workshops based on the data collected from the Quality Assurance Unit.
- Ensure the compatibility and consistency of study plans and their outcomes with health care requirements, taking into account market needs and international standards in this field.
- Ensure that the updated curriculum is uploaded annually to the college’s website.
- Submit minutes of periodic meetings, including recommendations to achieve the committee’s goals and tasks.
- Ensure the compatibility and harmony of the educational material, curriculum, and courses' study plans (Courses Syllabus) taught by faculty members, with the appropriate framework for international examinations.
- Monitor the implementation of the study plan, taking into account the results achieved for the purposes of planning its programs and the academic development of its students, and ensure that concerns or violations are addressed.
Academic Advising Committee
Objectives
The Academic Advising Committee at the College of Medicine aims to provide academic support and assistance to students in multiple field to enhance their academic performance, develop their learning skills, and achieve their academic and professional goals. This will be achieved by providing clear systems, mechanisms, and procedures that aim to advise students, make them aware of the academic difficulties they may face during their educational journey, and work on resolving them their academic problems. In addition, the Committee aims to advise them choose appropriate courses, according to the academic plan, and interpret academic regulations and instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Spread awareness of the culture of academic advising and its importance among the teaching staff and students.
- Supervise the implementation of academic advising procedures, implementing its instructions in the college, distributing students to academic advisors, and introducing them to their advisors, by announcing this information on the teacher’s and student’s electronic portal.
- Develop an appropriate executive plan for academic advising in the college at the beginning of each academic year, and initiate its implementation. It needs to be evaluated regularly; at the same time, quarterly reports and recommendations need to be submitted to the Dean of the College.
- Follow up on all students' academic advising steps by communicating with academic advisors, and reviewing all academic advising procedures and mechanisms.
- Direct students to the experienced people who can answer and respond to their enquiries. Issues and problems that cannot be decided by the committee can be forwarded to the college's administration.
- Hold workshops, seminars, and meetings for academic advisors, and pay attention to students' requests. In addition, develop their academic skills, refine their personalities, and achieve effective and purposeful learning and communication skills.
Tasks and duties of the academic supervisor
- The academic advisor is the link between students and the college administration that solve problems and other issues, when they arise.
- Offer advice guide students registered in the College of Medicine during the registration period, withdrawal of courses, addition, and ensure the compatibility of their study schedules with their approved study plans.
- Prepare a special file for each student. This file contains the student’s data, and a list of academic courses.
- Determine advising hours and announce them on the electronic portal.
- Follow up on outstanding and distinguished students, urge them to continue their excellence, and remove the obstacles and obstacles that stand in their way.
- Holding a quarterly meeting - at least - between the advisors and all the students they supervise, during which:
- Inform students of the rules and instructions related to university and college, and help them understand the nature of curricula and courses.
- Encourage students to integrate and participate in curricular and extracurricular activities organized by the college and university.
- Consider students’ inquiries, recommendations, and observations.
- Inform students of all permitted or prohibited behavioral rules according to the approved code of conduct.
- The academic advisor must follow up on students who are struggling or are expected to struggle academically, and develop appropriate plans for them. the following cases must be considered:
- A sudden drop in academic performance without justifiable reasons.
- Follow up on students who are frequently absent from lectures.
- The student’s absence from studying at the college.
- The student's unjustified request to postpone or withdraw from college.
- Complaints by faculty members about persistent negative behaviors by a student.
Examinations Committee
Objectives
The Examinations Committee at the College of Medicine at Hebron University aims to administer all theoretical and practical exams, monitor and supervise their validity, and follow up their progress for the basic and clinical stages to ensure the implementation of comprehensive quality instructions in examinations, and submit recommendations for their development. The committee’s work is characterized by complete confidentiality, high accuracy, and high-quality performance. It is the basic standard for measuring the level of outcomes of the educational process, documenting the efforts of the targeted beneficiaries, namely the students, and preserving their rights, too.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the compatibility of exams and their consistency with the desired educational outcomes for the courses, as well as their compatibility with the requirements of international exams, such as (NBME, IFOM).
- Ensure that the mechanism of assessment and examinations is aligned with the indicative plans for the courses.
- Monitor students’ evaluation procedures at the beginning of teaching courses, and use appropriate and authentic mechanisms to verify students’ achievement levels, compared to relevant reference standards, whether at the internal or external level.
- Follow up on the preparation of exam papers and answers in accordance with to the dates and procedures followed in the college.
- Ensure the compatibility of the evaluation procedures with the academic grades, and that they are clearly formulated and applied fairly and equitably.
- View samples of exams and evaluation papers used in the program.
- Ensure the implementation of the test specifications, and that tests cover all areas of planned student learning outcomes.
- Monitor the application of specific and clear standards, upon which the process of evaluating students awarding grades is based, and which indicate the levels of students’ achievement
- Provide accurate and comprehensive academic records, and follow procedures that protect and preserve these records.
- Ensure the diversity and appropriateness of assessment tools used in departments, their nature, and the outcomes they seek to provide for students.
- Ensure that immediate feedback is given to students about the results achieved regarding their performance, and evaluation during each semester, accompanied by assistance mechanisms when necessary.
- Monitor and review objection procedures to the evaluation results.
- Submit the necessary recommendations to make the required arrangements to train faculty members on students’ evaluation in both theoretical and practical aspects.
- Analyze student’s performance based on general culture, and determine the admission requirements at the college. These results must be used by the committees responsible for selecting students, the study plan committee, and to guide students with feedback that helps them make appropriate decisions.
- Study the problems and difficulties related to tests, and provide the necessary recommendations.
- Prepare a final report on the progress of the tests, explain the positives and negatives, if any, and provide recommendations for methods of improvement.
Library Committee
Objectives
The Library Committee at the College of Medicine aims to provide library and information services that support scientific research, medical learning, excellence, and leadership in the provision of sources of knowledge and information related to curricula, academic courses and research plans in the college. It also aims to provide a climate of knowledge among students, faculty members and researchers to achieve the vision, mission and desired goals of the College of Medicine.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide information sources in the appropriate form and at the required speed to the library beneficiaries.
- Select sources of information from the required books that support the educational programs and ongoing medical research in the college, and working to provide them to achieve the desired goals.
- Use modern technological means to index medical information sources, classify them within a specific mechanism, and display them to the audience of beneficiaries through the library's web page.
- Recognize the needs of library visitors in advance regarding information sources, and working to provide them.
- Identify and subscribe to the electronic information sources that serve study plans and medical research, and install their links on the electronic library page.
- Identify sources of free electronic information, and affix their links on the library page.
- Prepare the necessary programs to download medical research issued by the teaching and research staff at the college, provide them in full text, and create the necessary evidence that is needed for easy access.
- Communicate with the central library at the university, and obtain the books after carrying out the necessary technical procedures for them.
- Conduct an annual inventory of books, exclude old books, and make room for new books.
- Recommend subscriptions to specialized libraries and databases for the College of Medicine, and work on the possibility of accessing links to international, Arab, and local medical libraries, and publish their links on the college’s electronic page.
- Inform faculty members of the books, periodicals, and databases available in the library.3
- Organize events and workshops that contribute to developing research skills and scientific knowledge among students and faculty members.
- Conduct periodic evaluations to measure user satisfaction and improve the services provided by the library.
- Prepare statistics showing the numbers of students and professors benefiting from the library, coordinate with the Quality Assurance Committee, and submit recommendations in periodic reports to the Deanship of the College.
Medical Equipment & Laboratories Committee
Objectives
The Medical Devices and Laboratories Committee (MDLC) at the College of Medicine aims to ensure the provision and maintenance of necessary equipment and materials for teaching and scientific research in medical laboratories.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support in selecting the necessary equipment, and work to provide them to teach practical subjects and conduct medical research in laboratories.
- Develop a long-term plan to support laboratories, equipment and tools to raise the level of practical study in the College.
- Ensure that all devices, equipment and laboratories are subject to specified security and health standards, and that the necessary safety procedures are followed. Moreover, provide health and professional standards in college laboratories, and a safe environment for work and learning.
- Coordinate with relevant parties to purchase the annual needs, including laboratory equipment, tools, and materials, and supply them to the college.
- Conduct regular maintenance and immediate repair of medical equipment to ensure the continuity of its work with high efficiency and continuous quality.
- Develop medical laboratories and continuing to modernize them in line with the development of technology, the teaching needs, and the scientific research.
- Hold training courses and workshops to educate the teaching staff and students on how to use medical equipment correctly and safely.
- Provide technical support to faculty members and students on using medical equipment, and solve technical problems that may arise.
- Study the offers submitted by companies, and recommend the best ones that match technical specifications.
- Inspect all equipment, glassware, and chemicals received by the college, and ensure their conformity to the required specifications.
- Establish a database with the names and addresses of local and international companies specialized in supplying laboratory equipment and chemical materials that are needed for the College’s specializations.
- Manage all consumables related to equipment and laboratories, such as chemicals, including procurement mechanisms (annually), storage, and disposal in safe and appropriate ways.
- Conduct an annual inventory of the equipment used in the College, determine their suitability for use, and develop a specific system for this purpose.
- Establish a system for the use of rare devices to facilitate their use between the various departments of the College.
